Taking Notes By Andy Sporring - Issue #46

Hi everyone!

So now the next cohort of Ship30for30 is starting, and I will try my creativity on other things, not just Essays. I have already started to do Twitter threads, but I hope to run a Twitterspace also soon. I'm also an alumni captain so I will have some extra duties in this cohort! πŸ˜‰

So many new things and so little time... ;)

Books I Recommend

A Perfect Mess talks about that too much organization might be choking creativity. A short summary of sorts is:

Hidden benefits of disorder

  • Added invention, flexibility, completeness, resonance, invention, efficiency and robustness

  • Messiness can confer six key benefits

  • To reap the benefits, try being a little messier in some way, and see if there's an improvement in any of the above qualities.

I wanted to read this book for so long, but didn't get around to it. But now I have finally done it. And this is what the essence of Naval Ravikant Almanack:

The ability to make money and to be happy is a skill. They both depend on making good decisions. No matter what you do with your money or your time, you should avoid bad investments. That means trusting your gut. Say no when you cannot decide.

The best investments are compounded - they generate outsized returns. Capital and reputation are no exception. Happiness is a decision to slow down your monkey mind and focus on the present. And what is the best way to do that? Through meditation.

Ultralearning had a significant impact on me, and to be honest I could recognize a lot of me in it. My takeaways:

  • Do a lot of learning, be consistent.

  • Don't just think or learn about it-do it with intention.

  • Ultralearners acquire skills quickly because they seek feedback, not always from others but from themselves.

  • Even if this means designing an artificial environment (simulation) to practice and work in, we must spend enough time doing what we want to get better at.

My newest friend Oscar Lagrosen, that is a very interesting guy. He has developed a productivity system he calls Barbell that I find interesting. He's also a ship mate in the March cohort of Ship30.

Oscar has also done an interview with me for his podcast, see link below:

(You can also listen to this article on Youtube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, and Google Podcasts) Imagine the perfect productivity system that can ever exist. This system would have the following nine characteristics: Effortless input, allowing you to enter new information directly before you even think about it twice Reliable retrieval, you receive the information when […]
